Türkiye-Lebanon bilateral relations, 30.06.2025

Bilateral relations between Türkiye and Lebanon gained additional momentum, especially after the official visit of the then-Prime Minister Rafic Hariri to Türkiye in 2004.

Türkiye attaches great importance to the preservation of Lebanon's territorial integrity, security, and stability, and as a reflection thereof, has been demonstrating its support for Lebanon at each and every opportunity.

As a result of the importance that we attach to Lebanon’s safety, sovereignty, and prosperity, Türkiye played a proactive role in bringing about a ceasefire to end the 2006 Lebanon-Israel war, contributed to efforts to find a solution to the political crises that erupted in 2006 and ended with the 2008 Doha Agreement, has been actively participating in the peacekeeping efforts of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon(UNIFIL), contributed financially to the Special Tribunal established to investigate the 2005 assassination of Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, and last but not least, in the face of Israeli aggression against Lebanon that escalated especially after October 2023, provided not only political support to Lebanon but also delivered humanitarian and development aid to the Lebanese people.

High-level visits between our two countries increase the chance to explore areas of common interest and of cooperation.H.E. Fuat Oktay, the then-Vice President, paid a visit to Lebanon on August 8th, accompanied by H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the then-Foreign Minister, immediately after the Beirut Port explosion in August 2020, to convey the condolences of H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of the Republic of Türkiye, and of the Turkish Nation and to demonstrate our solidarity with the Lebanese people.

H.E. Hakan Fidan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited Lebanon in October 2023, and H.E. Najib Mikati, the then-Prime Minister of Lebanon paid an official visit to Ankara in December 2024, accompanied by a large delegation of Ministers.

Türkiye is committed to continuing to stand against any and all attempts that undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and stability, and to contribute assistance in line with the importance we attach to the preservation of safety and prosperity of our Lebanese brethren, with whom we share deep-rooted historical ties.
