Born in Ankara in 1969, Ambassador Murat Lütem received his B.A. in International Relations from the Middle East Technical University in 1993.

He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the same year and served in various capacities at the Directorate General for the Council of Europe and Human Rights, and the Directorate General for the Balkans and Central Europe, as well as at the Embassies in Bonn, Baku, and Washington.

Having served from 2010 to 2013 as the founding Consul General of the Turkish Consulate General in Boston, Ambassador Lütem served between 2013 and 2016 as Special Advisor to the Undersecretary with the rank of Ambassador.

Later, he was appointed in October 2016 as Ambassador to Singapore, a role he undertook until April 2021.

Ambassador Lütem subsequently served as Director General for Analysis and Coordination of Foreign Policy, then as Director General of Information, and finally as Director General for North America.

He began his duties as the Turkish Ambassador to Lebanon in December 2024.

Ambassador Lütem speaks English and German, he is married and a father of two.
